Is it the same for all dogs?

The position of the hand and the pressure and type of TTouch used will vary from dog to dog and will be dependent on the dog’s responses to contact and the part of the body that is being TTouched. For example nervous and defensive animals usually find contact with the back of the hand or fingers far less threatening and may initially only be able to tolerate being TTouched on their chest or shoulder.

Why named after animals?

The TTouches are largely named after animals that either inspired the particular body work exercise or as a point of reference to help guardians remember the shape and position of the hand and/or the pattern of movement created by each TTouch.

Do you have to stick to the specific hand positions?

Although there are many different hand positions and movements it is important not to get too focused on specific TTouches; adapting the way you utilise the body work element of the Tellington TTouch will be determined by the dog and how and when you might want to connect with him with your hands. It will also be influenced by your own position as well as where and how the dog is standing, sitting or lying down.

What actually is TTouch?

TTouches consist of a variety of specific light pressure touches and strokes. The aim is to increase mind/body awareness, release tension, improve circulation, and to give the dog new information and rewarding experiences by engaging the sensory aspect of the nervous system.

What is TTouch useful for?

We have found that TTouch can be very helpful in stressful situations, to recover from trauma, to aid anxiety, assist calming and focus. We have used it during vet visits, after conflicts, during illness and stress, during fireworks and thunderstorms, during training sessions and to help dogs settle during times that they find unsettling.
